Welcome to Steam Town USA! As a passionate train enthusiast, visiting this place was a dream come true. The rich history of the railroad, the technological marvel of steam power, and the pivotal role trains played in building our country is awe-inspiring. Did you know that there were more miles of rail in the US during the 1800s than there are now? It’s a bit disheartening to think about the decline of the rail industry since then.

The history of steam power and the railroad is both fascinating and tumultuous. The rapid pace at which technology advanced to transport people and goods across the country, the sacrifices made by those who cleared land, laid rails, and built engines – it’s all a testament to the remarkable human spirit.

You’ll be treated to a sight to behold at the museum – a working roundhouse with steam-powered monsters inside. You can even see a dissected train to get a glimpse of how everything works, inside and out – truly remarkable!

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the steam engines were not fired up and running during my visit. It’s frustrating to see the continued effects of the pandemic. Usually, the museum offers train excursions from the National Park, but it’s uncertain when they will resume trips again.

To top off the day, we dined at Abe’s Kosher Deli and enjoyed a fantastic lunch. The macaroni salad was so delicious that I was tempted to buy a tub, but I resisted the temptation!
