Hodges Vineyard and Winery is an authentic vineyard surrounded by acres of grapes, a small pond, and plenty of trees. An ornate entry gate precedes a long driveway as you approach the winery. There are four cement pads on the left with full RV hook-ups (a rare treat for a Harvest Host).

Being in Alabama, Hodges Vineyard and Winery grows muscadine grapes primarily and produces fruit wines such as peach, blackberry, and strawberry. We purchased three bottles and some snacks after our wine tasting before setting off for the Horseshoe Bend National Military Park.

Upon our return from the park, we set up the lawn chairs facing the vineyard and enjoyed the higher elevation’s pleasant breeze and cooler temperatures. Okay, it was about 750 feet, but we had just spent the past four months in Florida at sea level, so experiencing hills again was fantastic.

The wine was okay, but we both ended up with a headache. That tells me the wine may not be as carefully processed. We enjoyed a cold evening with the windows open. It was another successful Harvest Host experience.
